Sainsbury’s overtakes Asda in terms of sales, pushing Asda into third place. Asda is retaliating by creating big expansion plans for London. A further reason is that the economy in London is picking up compared to other parts of the country.
Asda plans to outdo its rivals by having a uk-wide fixed price policy, even in London, where it is known that the other stores charge more than the rest of the UK.
An added side effect is that a greater coverage of London with more stores will mean that online shopping and delivery become viable for the whole of London.
